Bogaletch Gebre Fund for Girls Education in Ethiopia
Supporting KMG-Ethiopia in expanding its successful transformative approaches in new areas in Ethiopia and in setting up a first Girls College
What is it about?
The Fund aims to support regular activities and new projects developed by KMG Ethiopia, founded by Bogaletch Gebre, in the field of girls' education in Ethiopia. Boge had wanted to spend half of the money from the KBF Africa Prize awarded in 2015 on this.
In particular, the Fund aims at the establishment of a girls' college. This facility, the first of its kind, will include a Community Action Learning Department that will share, develop and replicate, both nationally and internationally, best practices, mechanisms and strategies that have brought innovations in the prevention of sexual violence. Such violence includes harmful traditional practices, such as female genital mutilation of women and girls, and the marginalization of the Fuga community in the Kembatta region and elsewhere in Ethiopia.
The creation of this Fund therefore aims to mobilize more resources to support KMG's initiatives to combat sexual violence, empower women, girls and marginalized groups and promote good practices.
